Marketing Manager

Position Overview:
The Marketing Manager at SkiJapan.com is responsible for leading and executing strategic marketing initiatives to drive bookings, brand awareness, and customer engagement across domestic and international markets. This role requires a performance-driven, hands-on leader who understands the unique challenges and opportunities of seasonal tourism.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Reservations, Guest Services, Property and IT teams to align marketing activities with company objectives—ensuring optimal occupancy rates, effective use of advertising channels, and a compelling online presence.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Develop and execute annual and seasonal marketing plans aimed at maximizing property occupancy and tour bookings across key markets, including Australia, the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other emerging Southeast Asian countries.
- Lead the development and refinement of brand positioning and differentiation strategies across all properties. In a highly competitive market, this role is key to defining, maintaining, and strengthening each brand’s identity to ensure visibility, relevance, and standout appeal
- Identify and respond to emerging travel trends, customer preferences, and booking behaviours.
- Proactively spot opportunities for growth — whether through untapped revenue streams or smarter use of existing assets — and turn them into actionable strategies that support the wider business.
- Leverage data to drive demand forecasting and adjust campaigns based on revenue performance and booking trends.
Campaigns and Digital Marketing
- Manage integrated marketing campaigns (paid ads, social media, email, SEO/SEM, retargeting) across platforms to drive traffic and conversion.
- This role involves the end-to-end management of marketing campaigns across a diverse brand portfolio (including Gateway, Shinka, Fresh, and NBS), spanning both summer and winter seasons. From the outset, it’s essential to understand that this is a multi-brand position
- Coordinate content strategy with internal and external creatives to ensure messaging consistency and brand alignment.
- Lead promotion of bundled services (accommodation, lift passes, transfers, ski school, kids club, gear rental and summer activities) to improve per-guest revenue.
Website and E-commerce Oversight
- Work closely with the IT team on ongoing website improvements to support SEO, booking funnels, mobile performance, and user experience.
- Monitor Google Analytics, heatmaps, and in house tools ( Reswiz) to optimize landing pages and increase conversion rates.
- Ensure marketing content supports direct bookings and integrates with agent and OTA strategies where needed.
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Manage and mentor a small team of marketers and external contractors (eg. graphic designers)
- Coordinate with other departments (Reservations, Guest Services, Ski School, Ski Rental, Property, HR) to ensure campaigns reflect real-time service capacity and operational needs.
- Oversee workload planning and manage deadlines in collaboration with non-deadline-driven team members.
Key Requirements:
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in digital marketing, tourism, or destination marketing.
- Proven track record in demand generation, e-commerce marketing, and brand building.
- Experience working with hospitality/tourism CRMs, ad platforms, and website CMS tools.
- Strong writing, creative direction, and campaign analysis skills.
- Leadership experience, including cross-functional coordination and people management.
Knowledge & Attributes
- Deep understanding of seasonal travel patterns, especially winter tourism in Japan.
- Commercial mindset with focus on performance metrics (occupancy, revenue per guest night, ROI).
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to balance big-picture vision with tactical detail.
Preferred:
- Experience marketing Japan as a destination to international audiences.
- Fluency in English is required; Japanese language skills or experience living/working in Japan are considered a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with Booking.com, Jalan, Rakuten Travel and other OTA integration strategies.
Performance Indicators:
- Increase in direct bookings and guest nights.
- Engagement and conversion from digital campaigns.
- Improvement in SEO rankings and website conversion rates.
- Lead time and pacing of seasonal bookings.
- Team productivity and cross-departmental campaign coordination.

- Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience. Bi-annual bonuses dependant on personal, team and company performance.

EMPLOYMENT LOCATION
Niseko, Hokkaido on the north island of Japan and 90km from Sapporo.
EMPLOYMENT DATES
Start ASAP. Permanent full-time position. (3-month probationary period)

WORKING HOURS
Standard working hours will be 5 x days per week with an average of 40 – 45 hours per week. Hours can be flexible depending on time of season and operational needs however general in working hours are from 8:30am-5:30pm.
